National Pet Month

May is National Pet Month! We love our pets, for a lot of us it is what opened the doors to the profession we work in, some of us its the other way around and we didn’t realize how much pets meant to us until we started working with them. Either way, they are family. Our pets have this incredible ability to be there for us when it feels like the world is against us. They are there to comfort us when we feel like no one else is.

About 67% of Americans (according to most recent polls) have at least one pet in their household and 95% of these households consider their pets family. Dogs, cats, and freshwater fish are the most popular household pets. That being said, there are plenty more we can think of including; Saltwater fish, horses, ferrets, birds, reptiles, etc… Doesn’t matter what they are, we love them all the same and with the rising popularity of pets in social media we imagine you (like us) have many photos to show off! During National Pet Month we would like to invite you to share some of your favorite moments with your pets. Furry, scaly, fins, wings, 4 legs, or no legs we want to see them! Post a photo of those moments to or on our social media pages via the links below with the identifier #NationalPetMonth.

National Pet Month is an entire month devoted to the celebration of the joys that our pets bring to our lives but also a reminder of what it means to be a responsible pet parent. If we intend to share activities and a household with pets, it is our obligation to be responsible pet parents, which means we must set them up for success by providing them with proper socialization to cope with an ever-changing and stressful world, proper outlets for fun and exercise to detur destructive behaviors, and maintaining their health. We are getting to that time of year when we venture back outdoors with our family for all kinds of activities. Hiking, visiting the lake, dog parks, etc… It’s important to make sure your pet is up to date on vaccinations and on preventatives. A healthy pet should have a Wellness Visit at least once a year to ensure they stay healthy.
